Garigari-kun!

Few days ago my friend mentioned in his tweets that he saw a beetle when he was in Garut, West Java, and attached a picture. I sort of joked saying take it home for me.

He took it seriously.

Let me rephrase: HE TOOK IT SERIOUSLY. 

So today, I fetched the little droog.

Meet Garigari aka Gari, my new friend. I assume he's a Dynastinae Xylotrupes gideon.
I haven't measured him exactly but he's pretty big! About 8 cm. Which is pretty big for a Xylotrupes gideon. c:

He's still living in his cramped little plastic biscuit box now... I really want to get him a new box, but I have yet to do so. Hopefully I can do it soon, I don't want it to live in a too-cramped place.



I took him out of the box and let him crawl around on my hand. I don't think insects would remember my face though haha, but I shall hope he'd remember my smell and get acquainted with mine. :'D



He climbed up to my shoulderrrrrr I felt so appreciated a;dlkfasd;f ;A;
I tried to pick him up from my shoulder but he hissed, haha. Apparently he liked it on my shoulder? ;w;

This reminds me; back in January, a female Xylotrupes gideon flew into my house:

Sadly, I didn't get to keep her for long, since I didn't know what to feed her and stuff, she died a few days after she was found. I still keep her in a box in my bedroom, though.

This would be my first time keeping a beetle. I've researched a bit about its care, and it isn't a handful so I hope I won't do anything wrong.

Things to do now:

• Get a new box for Gari
• Maybe buy more bedding to make a proper one
• Watch room temperature & Gari's food

I'm happy to welcome him in my life, I will take good care of him. ♥
